A $50 million mixed-use development is being planned along a prominent stretch of East Broad Street in Whitehall. The city has selected Continental Real Estate Cos. to lead redevelopment efforts on the site of the crime-ridden Commons at Royal Landing apartment complex, nine months after Whitehall City Council laid the groundwork to purchase and redevelop the privately owned community of 270 apartments across South Hamilton Road from the Columbus Country Club. The Norton Crossing proposal calls for retail, restaurants, offices and residences in a series of one- to three-story buildings, according to site plans provided by the city. Continental’s vision includes a grassy commons area and a dog park, among other public amenities. Construction is expected to start in the second quarter of 2017. An estimated completion date has not been provided.
